DSSCAST

DSSCAST is a "podcast" by Jonatan Uranes released on a proprietary compressed audio file format called Digital Speech Standard (DSS). The format was created by Olympus, Philips and Grundig Business Systems in the mid 90's. It was designed to be used with portable dictaphones and drastically degrades the sound fidelity to reduce the size of the file.

"The purpose of this standard is to ensure that the dictation files recorded by products from industry leaders are compatible to play back. This ensures a larger market, giving the end user greater flexibility and choice, as well as the security of a controlled standard." [olympus]

This dsscast is recorded and produced on a Olympus DS-2300 dictaphone.
